There is so much more to see and do at Dog Days of Denton!  

Pooches and their people will find the traditional “Glamfur” shots of your furry friend, dogs on parade, canine contests, live entertainment, demonstrations, arts/crafts booths, pet information and adoptions, festival foods and more.

9 a.m. WELCOME REMARKS – All booths open

11 a.m. Sharina Van Syckle, President and Founder of Anastasia’s Angels Animal Rescue will discuss how to acclimate a dog into your home and how to select the right dog for your family
11:45 a.m. 2016 SPOKESDOG PAGEANT – Pre-entry required
12:30 p.m. Sarah Dangerfield, owner and founder of Carson Animal Rescue presents how to perform CPR on your canine friend.

In The Demo Field & Booth Area:

9 a.m. to noon Try out your canine’s skills for a donation of $5 at the Agility Course run by Zoom Room. The $5 donation benefits the Lions Club Leader Dog Program
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit with Tammy Freeman at the Lion’s Club booth about the Leader Dog Program
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit with Sharina Van Syckle in her booth at the rescue area about more specifics of selecting the right dog for your family and how to acclimate them to your household
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the GLAMFUR booth for a glamorous photo of your pet for a $5 donation. Also visit our Arts and Crafts vendors and Rescue Groups to find your new best friend.
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pet food donations for the Denton Animal Shelter taken at the Dog Days Information Booth
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food Trucks on the event perimeter

Demos and contests abound at the event! This year attendees can try out the following:

Courses will vary and will be announced closer to the event date. 

To try the agility course and the canine lure course, we ask for a donation of $5 to help the Lions Club Leader Dog Project.

All the fun contests are still happening, including:

Pet Tricks, Dancing with your Dog, Canine Couture Costume Contest, How Obedient is Your Dog , Dog Singing Contest, Heinz 57 and the popular Spokesdog Pageant (must be entered in advance – see Forms & Application page – DEADLINE IS mid-Sept). SEE ALL CONTEST INFO AND ENTRY INFO BELOW PLEASE.

All contests are stage call entries with the exception of the Spokesdog Pageant.  Owners wishing to enter their precious pooch or handsome hound in the Dog Days of Denton Spokesdog Pageant should follow the instructions on the Spokesdog entry flier. A simple essay and photo turned in by the deadline prior to the event will make you eligible for the contest.  Please see the flier on Forms & Applications Page for details or e-mail info@dogdaysdenton.com for more information.

Contest Information:

Spokesdog Pageant:  This contest has been a tradition since 1995. Spokesdogs have been promoting this original festival for 20 years. The winner of this year’s pageant will be the spokesdog for the upcoming 2016 event. Get the guidelines and entry information on the Forms and Applications page of the website. The deadline for entry is 2 weeks before the event.

The following is a stage call contest, so no advanced sign-up is required, but please be near the main stage approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Dancing with the Dogs: Bring your own music on an  iPod and come prepared with a routine that is between 30 sec to 1 minute. Routines and songs must be family-friendly, keep the safety of the dog and the owner in mind, and the surface area for dancing is a carpeted area that is approximately 20’ by 20’.  This is a stage call contest, but contestants must bring own music and have a prepared routine ready for the contest.

How Obedient is Your Dog:  Owners will be given a list of commands to give his/her dog and the dog who responds to the most commands, and with most accuracy wins.

Canine Couture Costume Contest:  Come with Fido decked out in the best creative costume or cool canine fashion. The best dressed and the cutest will compete in this fun contest.

Pet Tricks: Practice makes perfect. Get your pooch trained to do some fun tricks and compete one of the top three places.

Dog Singing: Bark your way to the top!  Pooches belt out their best howls adding to the fun in this popular Dog Days contest.

Heinz 57: This traditional contest has been a hit over the years.  No pedigree or special talent required for this one. Enter the most fitting of the 12 categories (note, these are subject to change): Oldest, Longest Ears, Shortest Ears, Longest Tongue, Shortest Tongue, Longest Legs, Shortest Legs, Fluffiest Hair, Shortest Hair, Best Dressed, Dog Owner Look-Alike and Dog Who Traveled the Farthest.
