Events Schedule

There is so much more to see and do at Dog Days of Denton!  

Pooches and their people will find the traditional “Glamfur” shots of your furry friend, dogs on parade, canine contests, live entertainment, demonstrations, arts/crafts booths, pet information and adoptions, festival foods and more. Stay cool at the event in the Cool Zone by Invisible Fence of Greater Dallas – expanded for more comfort this year!

Two new demo comes to the event this year – a herding demo by Alamar Farms and Nose Work by Golden Triangle Dog Obedience Group.  Some of our usual highlights include: new contests Canine Couture Costume Contest, Dancing with the Dog contest, How Obedient is Your Dog contest, disc and other demos; and try out an agility course with donations going to Leader Dog Project; Pet Tricks and Dog Singing contests; and the popular Spokesdog Pageant (must be entered in advance – see Forms & Application page – DEADLINE IS SEPT. 13TH).  SEE ALL CONTEST INFO AND ENTRY INFO BELOW PLEASE.

All contests are stage call entries with the exception of the Spokesdog Pageant.  Owners wishing to enter their precious pooch or handsome hound in the Dog Days of Denton Spokesdog Pageant should follow the instructions on the Spokesdog entry flier. A simple essay and photo turned in by the deadline prior to the event will make you eligible for the contest.  Please see the flier on Forms & Applications Page for details or e-mail info@dogdaysdenton.com for more information.

9 a.m.                                      Introduction to Therapy Pals Program and Canine Nosework demonstration – Main Stage

9 a.m. to Noon                       Agility Course open in field

*9:15 a.m.                               Demonstrations of canine sports in field start and run every half hour through Noon or later – see schedule below and each demo will have a schedule posted and rotate.

9:30 a.m.                                 Canine Couture Costume Contest on Main Stage

10 a.m.                                    Leader Dog Program/Lions Club –Presentation on service dog program – on Main Stage

Compete in these 12 categories: Most Drool, Longest Ears, Shortest Ears, Longest Tongue, Shortest Tongue, Longest Legs, Shortest Legs, Fluffiest Hair, Shortest Hair, Best Dressed, Dog Owner Look-Alike and Dog Who Traveled the Farthest

*Additional Demonstrations and Activities in the field:

  • 9 a.m. to Noon – Try out your canine’s skills at the Agility Course run by the Dallas Agility Working Group (D.A.W.G.) for a $5 donation that will benefit the Lions Club – Leader Dog Project
  • 9 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. – Dallas Dog’n Disc demonstrations.
  • 9 am. to 4 p.m. – Herding demonstration offered by Alamar Dog Training – come learn how dogs can move livestock and what skills are necessary to accomplish this in a trial setting, at home or on the farm.
  • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Nosework demonstrations and trial course offered by Golden Triangle Dog Obedience Group
  • 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Obedience Rally set up by Golden Triangle Dog Obedience Group – try your dog’s obedience skills going through this obedience course area (sets up after the agility course ends).

Contest Information:

Spokesdog Pageant:  This contest has been a tradition since 1995. Spokesdogs have been promoting this original festival for 20 years. The winner of this year’s pageant will be the spokesdog for the upcoming 2014 event. Get the guidelines and entry information on the Forms and Applications page of the website. The deadline for entry is 2 weeks before the event.

The following is a stage call contest, so no advanced sign-up is required, but please be near the main stage approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Dancing with the Dogs: Bring your own music on a CD or iPod and come prepared with a routine that is between 30 sec to 1 minute. Routines and songs must be family-friendly, keep the safety of the dog and the owner in mind, and the surface area for dancing is a carpeted area that is approximately 20’ by 20’.  This is a stage call contest, but contestants must bring own music and have a prepared routine ready for the contest.

How Obedient is Your Dog:  Owners will be given a list of commands to give his/her dog and the dog who responds to the most commands, and with most accuracy wins.

Canine Couture Costume Contest:  Come with Fido decked out in the best creative costume or cool canine fashion. The best dressed and the cutest will compete in this fun contest.

Pet Tricks: Practice makes perfect. Get your pooch trained to do some fun tricks and compete one of the top three places.

Dog Singing: Bark your way to the top!  Pooches belt out their best howls adding to the fun in this popular Dog Days contest.

Heinz 57: This traditional contest has been a hit over the years.  No pedigree or special talent required for this one. Enter the most fitting of the 12 categories: Oldest, Longest Ears, Shortest Ears, Longest Tongue, Shortest Tongue, Longest Legs, Shortest Legs, Fluffiest Hair, Shortest Hair, Best Dressed, Dog Owner Look-Alike and Dog Who Traveled the Farthest.
